Cost & Pricing

How much does a car diagnostic cost in Liverpool?
A full all-systems vehicle diagnostic scan with LVP Key & Code in Liverpool costs from £65. This is not a basic code reader — it covers every electronic module in the vehicle. Pre-purchase inspections start from £95. DPF forced regeneration is £50 as an add-on. Call 0151 662 1289 for a quote specific to your vehicle or fleet.
Is a mobile diagnostic as thorough as a garage?
Yes — the quality of a diagnostic depends on the equipment, not the location. LVP Key & Code uses OE-level diagnostic equipment covering all modules across all common platforms. The same scan carried out at your location produces the same data as a scan in a workshop. We also work with garages directly where they need coverage for specific platforms. Call 0151 662 1289.
Do you offer trade pricing for garages?
Yes. LVP Key & Code works on a trade basis with independent garages and dealerships across Merseyside. If your workshop needs OE-level diagnostic capability for a platform you do not currently cover, we attend on a trade callout basis with straightforward pricing and written reports. Call 0151 662 1289 to discuss a trade account.
Do you charge for callout?
Callout is free to all L1–L25 Merseyside postcodes. Beyond 10 miles from L9 Fazakerley, a charge of £1 per mile applies with a £30 minimum. Wirral postcodes carry a £5 tunnel supplement. Call 0151 662 1289 to confirm your postcode.

What Diagnostics Shows

What does a full vehicle diagnostic scan show?
A full system scan reads fault codes from every electronic module in the vehicle — not just the engine. This includes transmission, ABS, airbag, body control module, climate control, steering, and more. It identifies both active faults currently affecting the vehicle and stored historical codes from past events. LVP Key & Code provides a plain-language explanation of every code found. Call 0151 662 1289.
What is the difference between a basic code reader and a full diagnostic scan?
A basic code reader — the type sold in motor factors — reads engine fault codes only and gives a code number with no explanation. A full OE-level diagnostic scan covers every module in the vehicle, reads live data streams, identifies both active and stored codes, and provides context on what each code means and its likely cause. LVP Key & Code provides full scan data with plain-language reporting. Call 0151 662 1289.
Can a diagnostic scan tell me what is wrong with my car?
A diagnostic scan identifies which systems have reported a fault and what that fault code means. It does not always diagnose the root mechanical cause — a code for a faulty sensor may indicate the sensor itself, its wiring, or the component it monitors. LVP Key & Code provides an honest interpretation of every code found and advises on likely causes and next steps. Call 0151 662 1289.
My engine light is on — what does that mean?
An engine warning light — also called the MIL or malfunction indicator lamp — means the engine management system has detected a fault and stored a code. The fault could be minor, such as a sensor reading outside its expected range, or more significant. The only way to know is a diagnostic scan. LVP Key & Code attends your location across all Merseyside postcodes. Call 0151 662 1289.
My car has multiple warning lights on — can you scan all of them?
Yes. A full all-systems scan reads codes from every module that has reported a fault — regardless of how many warning lights are active. All codes are read in a single session. Call 0151 662 1289 or enquire at lvpkeyandcode.co.uk.
Can you scan a car before I remap it?
Yes — and it is standard practice. LVP Key & Code carries out a full diagnostic scan before every ECU remap. A vehicle with unresolved fault codes should not be remapped — active faults affect how the engine management system responds to a new calibration. If you are considering a remap, a pre-remap scan is included in our remapping service. Visit our ECU remapping page for full details.

DPF — Diesel Particulate Filter

What is a DPF regeneration and how much does it cost?
A DPF forced regeneration is a diagnostic procedure that burns accumulated soot from a blocked diesel particulate filter using the vehicle's own engine management system. It costs £50 as an add-on to a diagnostic scan. It prevents the need for a DPF replacement — which can cost £1,000 to £3,000 — in many cases where the filter is blocked but not damaged. Call LVP Key & Code on 0151 662 1289.
How do I know if my DPF is blocked?
Common signs of a blocked DPF include a DPF warning light on the dashboard, reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption, and the vehicle entering a limp mode. A diagnostic scan will confirm DPF soot loading levels and whether a forced regeneration is possible or whether the filter requires replacement. Call 0151 662 1289.
Can all diesel vehicles have a DPF regen?
Most diesel vehicles manufactured from 2009 onwards have a DPF fitted. Not all blocked DPFs can be regenerated — if the soot loading is too high or the filter is physically damaged, regeneration will not be possible and replacement is required. A diagnostic scan confirms soot loading levels before any regeneration is attempted. Call 0151 662 1289.
Is DPF deletion legal?
DPF deletion — physically removing or bypassing the diesel particulate filter — is illegal for road use in the UK under the Road Traffic Act and Vehicle Excise and Registration Act. A vehicle with a deleted DPF will fail its MOT and is not roadworthy. LVP Key & Code does not carry out DPF deletion. We provide forced regeneration only, which clears the filter without modification.

Pre-Purchase Inspections

Can you do a pre-purchase car inspection at a private address?
Yes. LVP Key & Code attends any location across Merseyside for a pre-purchase inspection — private sellers' addresses, dealership forecourts, and auction sites. We provide a written report of all fault codes found across every module. Investment from £95. Call 0151 662 1289 before you commit to buying.
What does a pre-purchase inspection include?
A pre-purchase inspection from LVP Key & Code includes a full all-systems diagnostic scan covering every electronic module, identification of active and stored fault codes, a plain-language written report, and an honest advisory on the severity of any faults found. We do not work for the seller — we work for you. Call 0151 662 1289.
Is a pre-purchase inspection worth it?
A pre-purchase inspection costs £95. A hidden gearbox fault, airbag module issue, or DPF problem on a vehicle you have just bought can cost thousands to repair. A diagnostic scan takes 30 minutes and identifies every stored fault before money changes hands. LVP Key & Code covers all Merseyside postcodes — call 0151 662 1289 before you buy.
Can a seller refuse a pre-purchase inspection?
A seller can refuse — but a refusal is itself informative. Any seller confident in the condition of their vehicle should have no objection to a diagnostic scan. If a seller refuses an inspection, treat that as a significant warning sign. LVP Key & Code attends at short notice across all Merseyside postcodes. Call 0151 662 1289.

Garages, Fleets & Trade

Do you work with independent garages in Liverpool?
Yes. LVP Key & Code provides mobile diagnostic support to independent garages across Merseyside on a trade basis. If your workshop encounters a platform your current equipment does not cover to OE level, we attend on a trade callout with straightforward pricing and written reports. Call 0151 662 1289 to discuss how a trade account works.
Can you carry out diagnostics on a fleet of vehicles?
Yes. LVP Key & Code covers fleet diagnostics across Merseyside — private hire and taxi fleets, commercial operators, and company vehicles. Fleet pricing is available for operators with multiple vehicles. Call 0151 662 1289 to discuss your fleet requirements. Note that taxi and PHV operators also receive a 20% trade discount across all LVP services.
Can diagnostics be combined with other services?
Yes — and in many cases it should be. A diagnostic scan is included before every ECU remap LVP Key & Code carries out. Car key programming jobs on vehicles with warning lights are assessed diagnostically before any programming is attempted. Combining services in a single visit reduces callout time and overall cost. Call 0151 662 1289 to discuss.
Can you reset service lights after an oil change?
Yes. Service resets including oil service intervals, brake fluid reminders, and manufacturer maintenance lights are covered for all common makes and models. From £35. Call 0151 662 1289 or enquire at lvpkeyandcode.co.uk.
